The long, grassy National Mall is home to iconic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. At the eastern end is the domed U.S. Capitol, and the White House is to the north. It’s also flanked by Smithsonian museums, and its lawns and pathways are often crowded with school groups, joggers and softball teams. Nearby, the Tidal Basin reservoir is known for its blossoming cherry trees. Just a 4 minute walk from the Washington Monument.

Baltimore

There are plenty of things to do in Baltimore, thanks to its thriving arts culture, world-class sports teams, and unmatched museums. Most Americans wouldn’t consider Charm City (a common nickname) a major place to visit, but its spectacular waterfront views and rich history make this city a must to explore.

Experience the vibrant heart of the city at Inner Harbor, home to the National Aquarium, an urban beach, and a plethora of shops and seafood restaurants. Art lovers will be intrigued by the wondrous collection at the Baltimore Museum of Art, while a ballgame at the storied Oriole Park is a must-do for any sports fanatic. Diehard American and Civil Rights history aficionados cannot leave without visiting Fort McHenry – the site where the Star-Spangled Banner song was composed.

Baltimore’s Inner Harbor has been an important seaport since the 18^th century, and continues to be the activity center of the city. Located just south of downtown, the harbor is home to some of Baltimore’s biggest attractions and is connected by an expansive 7-mile brick waterfront promenade.

Spend the day walking and shopping at the numerous boutique malls, or stop and take in exhilarating street performances. The National Aquarium, the Maryland Science Center, and the USS Constellation Museum are the big draws, all within a 10-minute walk of each other. Jump aboard a water taxi cab or head to Federal Hill Park for the best views of the harbor.

Philadelphia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s largest city, is notable for its rich history, on display at the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall (where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed) and other American Revolutionary sites. Also iconic are the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, immortalized by Sylvester Stallone’s triumphant run in the film “Rocky.” 

Philadelphia is a city steeped in history. It’s where America’s founding fathers gathered, and where the American ideals of freedom were brought to life. It’s a place with dozens of historic sites, centuries-old neighborhoods and some 90 museums to explore.

Within a day you could gorge on cheesesteaks at a rough-and-ready diner then twirl into the elegant Academy of Music for an opera performance. Wander along 18th century roads which leads into a search for some of the thousands of vibrant street murals splashed on walls across the city. An intriguing mix of grit and glamor awaits you in this City of Brotherly Love.

One of the most historic cities in America, Philadelphia is an ideal place to spend a weekend – preferably a long one. Be sure to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were signed. Both are part of Independence National Historic Park. Philadelphia also boasts some outstanding art museums, including the Rodin Museum. The Franklin Institute Science Museum is one of many area attractions honoring the life and work of Benjamin Franklin, the city’s most famous ambassador. After digesting all of that history, be sure you save room for a classic Philly cheese steak sandwich.
